As we are nearing the Christmas season, e-commerce businesses know the importance of supercharging the interest around their product to get more sales. Brand perception through packaging is important, so spicing up the Christmas-themed packaging is as necessary as putting up a Christmas tree.

In today’s blog, we share five tips to get your business started.

1. Add festive elements to your packaging

The graph below shows the four main reasons why brand packaging is a valuable aspect of your business, with the highest one being ‘making the brand seem more upscale’. Meaning, if you’re brand has a strong packaging theme surrounding its branding (i.e. colour schemes, visible logo, well-formatted texts, and well-balanced type fonts), your brand is likely going to look more ‘official’ and so ‘professional’ that consumers see the greater value in the business as a whole.

During the holidays, a well-branded Christmas-themed packaging would be the best route to take. This could be through adding a classic red and green palette to your packaging such as fillers, customized craft tapes and adding a temporary Christmas icon to the business logo- both digitally and on your packaging.

2. Gift-like packaging

Christmas is a season of giving. The best way to reinforce this in your packaging by adding gift-like elements such as personalized cards or adding surprise gifts such as stickers or product samplers.

Gift-like packaging is also very ‘unboxing’ worthy. Users flock to Youtube to watch people opening boxes and giving their first impressions to them. Youtube also reported that viewership of unboxing videos increased by 57% since last year, showing that unboxing-type packaging will get more eyes on your product than plain packaging. 50% of shoppers also agree that the use of gift-like packaging for online orders and makes them more likely to recommend the product to friends, compared to 40% in 2015

3. Know the trends

Christmas can be your business’ breakthrough season if you know your industry trends. It is important to be aware of the changing styles of your industry and see if they implement innovative packaging- do they use a particular material more? What accessories or wrapping do they use for their packaging? Are they more minimal? Are they more sustainable?

4. Consumers love feel-good packaging

When referring to trends, it is found that consumers love to see packaging that is not damaging the environment just as much as the product is. Packaging is a powerful way to show your customers that you care about the planet and support them to make sustainable changes to their lives. In recent years, customer environmental awareness has grown to 88% as many people are switching to environmentally-friendly and sustainable packaging.

Popular packaging elements that are sustainable are 100% recycled postal boxes , letter boxes, kraft paper rolls, and using recyclable fillers such as acid-free tissue papers.

5. Timing

The exact date for brands to start decorating and selling Christmas themed products is highly debated. From our experience, customers tell us that the best time to make the switch is early-mid November which is now!
